Internet Explorer - - unable to access some websites

Are you trying to access a webpage and but cannot view it as Internet Explorer says it is unable to display the webpage. Other web browsers may also be unable to display the page. Other users connected to different routers and modems may be able to access the webpage. This issue can be rectified by changing the MAC address of the user-defined setup section. Later you will need to reboot your system and reset the modem. This issue occurs as one site is continuously accessed from a same router by multiple systems. The server will send an IP address in a BAND LIST and this will stop you from accessing the site - if that is the case you will need to get a new IP address.

Issue

I have a website that I am trying to access that keeps coming up as "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". The link worked for me last week but I have not been able to get it back up since last weekend. It is a members-only site and is password protected, but I can't even get the page to come up so I can enter the ID and password. I also tried to access the page through Firefox but had the same problem. Every other webpage I have tried to access works but not this one. I know it is a working page because I have had other people try it from different locations and it comes up for them. I really need to access the page because it is the training page for an opportunity I am working on. I spent about 2 hours with an online tech the other evening. He was entering all kinds of codes but we couldn't get anything to get the page to load. Can you help me??

Solution

The correct answer to this problem is as follows:

You must go into your router.

Enter the setup section.

Select MAC address.

Select user defined.

Change a few numbers and letters in the MAC address.

Save settings and reboot your computer and reset your MODEM.

This problem occurs when viewing the same site over a router from more than one computer or application at the same time (over a prolonged time interval). This activates a feature in the server software that puts your IP address on a so called "BAND LIST". Your web hosting company will not be able to correct it because they don't know what is going on, because they can see that it is working fine at their end. The most common answer is: Replace your router. It works for them... But it is not the correct answer and it costs money to do so.

More info:

If you check your IP address with and without your router, you will see that it is different. The MAC address on your router is different from the one on your modem. The MAC address helps define what your IP address is. If you are on an "IP Band List", you must change your IP. This is only possible through changing the MAC address on the router or calling your ISP, if you are not using a router.
